Why Sher the Dough?

I needed a new purpose while my kids were off at college, traveling the country, working….ummm, I’ll just say it…They didn’t need me, and this was life changing for me.

At first, it became a problem for me. I felt lost. Both of my boys left home at the same time, and it was a hard hit to my heart. So as a former school teacher and a current stay-at-home mom, (YEP, you said it!), I needed to get out of my own way! I was literally the problem. No one could help me. I needed to help myself, find a job, a new hobby, go back to school, go back into education, just something.

So what did I do? I played tennis…a lot of tennis. Full discloser, I always played a lot of tennis, and I just played MORE…

Fast forward a year and a half…the pandemic hit…Covid19…Coronavirus…SARS-CoV-2….Coronavirus of 2019! UGH!

But wait, this virus brought my family back together. I feel selfish even typing that, but it did and it was wonderful. The pandemic brought us back together as a whole unit. And then, I quickly learned that my kids never “didn’t” need me. They just needed their mom differently now, and I needed to find my own path. I wanted something to share with friends, something to share with my family, and most importantly-I wanted something to share with the community during this difficult time.

Then, March 2020 hit. My dear friend, Rene, shared a sourdough starter with me…and that is when things started to form, shape, rise, and come to life! I started baking sourdough bread, and Sher the Dough was born. (name credit to my friend, Mar Mar, for Sher the Dough).

I could make a long story even longer and get into the details of the day I made my first batch of dough, and the following day that I made my first sourdough boule, etc…but I won’t…Not yet. Perhaps I will share my first attempts on another blog post, someday (I even have video proof). Needless to say, baking sourdough bread is an art and takes practice.

That’s a wrap for my first blog. (wrap…beeswrap…and we will discuss that later)…Anyway, there you have it; this is how Sher the Dough began. A new dream was born with the intention of paying it forward, giving back, sher…ing the dough with the community. Thank you so much for joining me on my journey.
